SMS- Saving Out Loud

We Speak About Money Over Here.

The SMS Mission…

Lose your money “manners” and start speaking about your finances!

SMS is a blog for sharing some of the highs and lows of money. From financial trauma to financial freedom.

Trauma often causes us to be silent and withdraw. Financial trauma often does the same, causing unhealthy money habits. We can empower ourselves by saving for independence and speaking about the journey. This blog was created to help start these conversations.

SMS is a space for overcoming, learning and sharing. It’s a space to heal from trauma and develop a healthy relationship with money. It is a space to make mistakes and to document them out loud in order to learn from them.

UNLEARN OLD HABITS; START TALKING ABOUT MONEY

What does it mean to be saving out loud?

Start

Start by identifying the ways in which you engage with money: any trauma and how it affects you. Document goals, worries, experiences, knowledge. This is the first step. Start taking action even if it’s not out loud yet. Decide that you want change and start somewhere.

Manage

Manage your mental health by seeking help where necessary so that you can then manage debts, income, budgets, expenses and investments. We ‘manage’ by doing and we ‘manage’ by learning. Review your transactions…take control of your money and your mind!

Speak

The process doesn’t stop because you started. If you could not achieve the ‘out loud’ part before, try now. Speak (or just somehow share) parts of your journey and the experiences that you’ve acquired. Join conversations, and start conversations!

BAD MONEY MANNERS OR GOOD MONEY HABITS?

Have you ever asked yourself what would happen if we started to approach the topic of money and mental health more freely and openly? That’s exactly my aim with this blog. To share my money journey in order to enable more conversations about finance and saving after trauma.

There is so much unlearning to do where our money is concerned. There is so much healing to do where our money and health intersect. Lots of people avoid talking about money because they are taught that it is uncouth, or they are frightened of it due to trauma…let me tell you saving and talking both HELP!

Saving money can ensure that we have the independence to escape unhealthy situations and avoid further trauma. Talking about money is an important part of healing and can help others in their journeys. It’s also exactly what this space is for. Let’s start talking.
